Woody biomass-fuelled furnace:
Did you know?
Two thirds of the energy used in Hungary has to be imported at present, while biomass can be produced locally.
Research-inspiring interesting questions, exciting venues, and valuable prizes – Pannonpower launched the 4th Green Energy Competition. We receive applications from today, the subject is still renewable-based energy production.
The three-day professional conference, which was organized by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics for the 12th time and was held in Pécs for the first time, placed the emphasis on sustainable energy production.
The trading of coal exploited from Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt.’s Pécs-Vasas mine has commenced. The recently re-opened opencast mine is expected to yield 15 000 tons of coal in each of the next five years, which will be primarily utilized in household purposes.
Pannonpower, a branch of Veolia Energy Hungary, established a state-of-the-art visitor centre in Pécs at the site of its biomass-fuelled power plant. The 150 km² complex was built with the involvement of local businesses and features 21st century tools and interactive games to present the history, fuel and the world-class biomass-based technology of the power plant of Pécs to the public. The centre is open for the public and offers programs especially designed for primary, high school and university students as well.
Pannon Hőerőmű Zrt. and the Baranya County Directorate for Disaster Management signed an agreement on organizing mutual exercises and training courses in the future and cooperating in order to continue keeping the operation of the power plant of Pécs safe and sound.
Following the practice of recent years Pannonpower is using discarded Christmas trees for energy efficiency purposes this year as well. The holiday emblems thus now contribute to the renewable energy based heating of more than 30 000 homes, while their efficient second application will considerably light the city maintenance’s seasonal load.
Mining has recommenced at the coal mine of Vasas, located north of Pécs, since the mining contractor, Pannon Hőerőmű, acquired all the licenses necessary for restarting production. The area, which contains almost 3 million tons of mineral resources, will see the yearly exploitation of 15 000 tons of coal by opencast mining technology. The reopening of the mine creates jobs in the area and provides inexpensive heating fuel to the local residents.
