Hungaryintends to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 14.65% by 2020, which is nearly the triple of their present share but even that amount falls 7% short of the commitment made to the EU.
The 4th Green Energy Competition is on the way
Research-inspiring interesting questions, exciting venues, and valuable prizes – Pannonpower launched the 4th Green Energy Competition. We receive applications from today, the subject is still renewable-based energy production.
Our company invites applications for the Green Energy Competition in the name of sustainability and 100% green district heating. In cooperation with the district heating supplier of the city, PÉTÁV, the goal is to raise awareness about renewable-based power plant-level energy production and to promote environmentally friendly technologies.
We are inviting three member teams consisting of students coming from the 9th and 10th classes of any high school located in Baranya County. The youngsters interested in natural sciences and energy efficiency can earn a chance to familiarize themselves with the processes going on within the power plant and they can experience the operation of the city’s district heating system as well.
When applying the students have to provide the necessary data (name of members, school, team name and password) and they also have to solve the tasks of the first round, which can be found in a new site this time, at vetelkedo.pecsizoldzona.hu. The questionnaire is available until 18 September and the deadline is 11 October!
The subject remains the same: during the first rounds the questions are revolving around renewable energy sources and biomass, while later segments deal with Pannonpower and the supply of district heating. The third and fourth rounds (which are open only for the 10 best teams) are preceded by a visitation at the Pécs power plant and the facilities of the district heating system, including the subterranean utility tunnels which are otherwise closed for the public.
In order to gain the overall victory, the best five teams will test their skills at the final in December, which will be held in a new venue, the Green Zone Visitor’s centre. The stakes are high: members of the winning team will receive tablets, silver medallists will win action cameras, and the third best team will go home with new smart bracelets. Moreover, as a special prize, the most successful school will also be awarded a laptop.
